SignUpGenius new features text messaging screenshots mobile

Sharing your sign up information is now simpler than ever with SignUpGenius’ latest feature: text messaging. SignUpGenius Pro subscribers can share their sign up invites or updates about events with group members via text messages.

Try Text Messaging:

Sign up participants must opt in to receive text messages. To get started, log in to your account and head to the Messages tab. Once you hit the “Compose” option, you’ll be able to send an email asking group participants if they’d like to receive updates via text message.

Once people have opted in, Pro sign up creators can return to the Messages area and select “Send a Text Message to People Participating in a Sign Up.”  If using a mobile device, you'll look under the "Tools" area to find similar functionality. Participants who don’t opt in to texts can receive updates via email instead.

Your participants can opt out of text messages at any time.

SignUpGenius Pro Silver customers can send up to 150 text messages per month; Pro Gold has access to up to 500; Pro Platinum can send up to 1,500.

Get started showing off how smart you are now. With text messaging, group organizing just got even easier!

Hi Cheryl,
You can send a manual text reminder the day of the event with the text messaging feature. The automatic text/email reminders can be scheduled up to one day in advance, but not the day of the event. This reminder setting can be found in Step 5.

Is there any plan that allows you to send a text reminder to participants on the morning of the day of the event?

Hi Mike,
We always give users the option to create an account if they wish to do so, but it is not required in order to sign up for events. Also, users are only required to enter a name when they sign up. The email address is always requested because most users prefer to receive a reminder of their commitment. However, the email address is not required unless the creator of the sign up has required the email address.

Very interested in SUG for our church volunteers and other groups I'm involved with. Not a user yet because it sounds like volunteers must "create an account" just to sign up or participate. Creating another online account with username and password credentials is a hurdle many people simply won't jump over. Is this actually required of volunteers, or only for signup admins? thanks for clarifying!

Hi Anne,
Yes, Pro users can now send invites via text. Go to 'Messages' located on the left side of your account page. Click 'Compose' to send text messages to participants you wish to contact. You can also send follow-up texts to participants after the event is over. Sending a text *does* require that members of your group choose to opt in and receive text messages.

As always, we offer the ability for participants to receive reminders via text message. Because text messaging involves fees for the recipient, the individual user must choose the option to receive texts. From 'Settings' located on the left side of their account page, anyone participating in a sign up (basic or Pro) can choose to receive reminders via text.

Can we send invitations to sign up via text message? Or is this feature just for reminders?

Hi Montour Elementary PTA,
Opting in to receive text messages from a creator does not automatically update the setting to receive text reminders. The user must still choose the option to receive text reminders in additional to email reminders. From "Settings" located on the left side of their account page, they can choose to receive reminders via text for all sign ups they are signed up on, whether the sign up is created in a basic or Pro account.

Good Morning,
If members opt in to receive text messages, does the Sign Up automatically send the sign up reminder via text and e-mail?

Posted by Betsy Lytle on Wed May 17, 2017 12:15 PM EST
Hi Carole,
The text messages, as with emails, can only be sent to group members by the sign up creator. The text messages are sent separately to each individual rather than as a group text; therefore, phone numbers are not visible to other group members and your group members will be unable to send a group text message.

Can members of a signup group, once they opt in for text messages, communicate with each other via text? IE; day of event, someone is running late, can they send a group text message via this option to the rest of the members advising them that they will be late?

Hi Namoonga,
The automatic text reminders that are available with a basic account, can only be sent one day or more before the event, the same as with email reminders. You would need to send a text message to your group manually to send a reminder less than a day in advance.

Does the text message option work as a reminder for events one signed up for? We're on the basic plan and have the email reminders going up but can on schedule those by day and the shorted time frame is a day before the event. Working for a college campus, we find (1) our students are lazy about checking their mail and (2) reminders the day of a more effective. Can the text message option be used to achieve this where as opposed to a reminder email being sent, a reminder text is sent like an 1 hour before the event?

Hi Rachael,
Thanks for your interest in this new feature! Your participants need to opt in only once to receive text messages from you no matter how many groups they are in.

If an individual is in more than one of my groups, do they need to "opt in" to text messaging for each of their groups, or just once?

Posted by Betsy Lytle on Mon May 8, 2017 6:57 PM EST
Hi Clint,
Each sign up creator needs to invite their group members to opt-in to receive texts. It is not possible for volunteers to opt-in without receiving a direct invite from a creator.

To send an 'opt-in' message to your group members, go to *Messages* located on the left side of your account page. Click*Compose* and select the option to:
*Invite people to Opt-In to Text Messages*. From there, simply select the group or groups you want to invite to receive texts.

We will send out individual texts to the people you select. Your group members will not know the mobile phone numbers of anyone else you invite. You will be able to confirm that each text was delivered in the *Sent* tab of our Messages area.

Can volunteers opt-in to text messages when entering their cell phone number into the sign-up?
